Short answer

Screenpipe records your screen, audio and meetings on macOS, Windows and Linux, free on one device, with Basic at $21 a month. If you want something with no setup on an Apple silicon Mac, Everpaper is the alternative. Granola covers meetings only, and Windows Recall covers Copilot+ PCs. Stay with Screenpipe if you need Windows or Linux or want to build on the data.

Disclosure. Everpaper is our product, and it is in this article. We say where it falls short, and every competitor fact below carries the date we checked it.

Facts as of October 2026. Prices and features change. Each source is linked at the end.

Screenpipe is the cross-platform option for recording your own computer. The reasons to look elsewhere are usually a platform it does not suit, wanting an app with less to set up, or a price that moved.

Where Screenpipe stands

Screenpipe describes itself as continuously recording your computer work. It runs on macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows 10 and 11, and Linux. Its README says capture history stays on your device by default.

Plan Price, October 2026 What it adds
Free $0 One device; screen, audio and meetings captured locally; search recent work
Basic $21 a month or $250 a year Searchable history across apps, meetings and audio; context for AI tools over MCP
Business $42 per seat a month or $500 per seat a year Sync across your devices, recurring workflows, managed seats
Enterprise Custom SSO, MDM, retention and device controls

The GitHub page names the Screenpipe Commercial License and describes it as source-available, so read it before commercial use.

Everpaper. Our product. It is an app, not a toolkit: start the workday journal and a screenshot of each display is taken every 2 minutes by default and read on your Mac. Meetings are recorded and transcribed on the device. Ask answers questions across both. It needs macOS 15 or later on Apple silicon, has no Windows or Linux version, and is in private beta with no public price. It ships a command-line tool and exports to Markdown, an Obsidian vault and GraphML.

Granola. A bot-free meeting notepad that uses cloud providers. Basic is free with 30 days of history.

Windows Recall. Microsoft’s documentation says Recall needs a Copilot+ PC, is off by default, and saves snapshots encrypted to the local drive. It is not available on a Mac.

Stay with Screenpipe if

You use Windows or Linux, you want to build workflows on the captured data, or the free tier on one device is enough.
